Plato's Cave vs Hira' Cave

Instead of escaping from the Plato's cave, Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. went into a cave to 'see' the Ultimate ENTITY - orion

Is Plato a Greek or is he an Arab? Is he a Muslim? Historically, i doubt the origin of philosophy... is philosophy based on ONLY rational thinking or make do of overall thinking capabilities?? PLUS.. is it somehow based on FAITH or just plain FACTS only?? What is it's significance and relevance to our modern society today? Is there any philosophy that lasts till today?? or.. it's just a temporary assumptions that yet would never resolve to any settlement...??? History of America and Marxism has shown that neither any philosopically-based assumptions leads to extravagance and contribute to the (both spiritual and physical) development of a kingdom

No one knows the truth but ALLAH. But as I know, Plato was born in Athens and is believed to be a philodorian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philodorian). I dont know his actual religion. He might be a muslim, who knows, since he was born before the advent of Muhammad s.a.w (i prefer using s.a.w than p.b.u.h).

Philosophy which based only on rational thinking is a small part, in fact a stream of many streams of philosophy. Plato believed that the truth can be achieved merely by reasoning. Aristotle added another approach - senses. Locke, Hume & all empiricists accept both. It depends on you, as everybody can build his or her own philosophy, but the other people will judge it.

FAITH & FACTS? Remember when Ibrahim a.s thought about God in a cave during his childhood. That was a philosophical action. He used his 'facts' to build 'faith' and ended up with religion. Think why does ALLAH tell us the stories about Ibrahim a.s and many personnels so much in the Holy Quran. The hint is (1 of them), philosophy is relative to time.

Obvious significance - science,politics,education, etc.
Last till today? - both.
American capitalism vs Marxism - the examples of how pnilosophy can be maliciously manipulated to realize 'one's' agenda.. =)

Truth is experienced.. not rationalized.. thus,

thinking alone would not do.. so,

the heart has to be awakened.. then,

the inner senses will turn sensitive.. so much so,

as to aid the rational faculty to its direction.. that,

only by them both one can taste.. and,

by guidence of Him the possessor of the truth.. to,

guide or not to guide is up to Him alone.. therefore,

submit.. be humble.. be sincere.. ask for what you seek.. look for it.. do not be arrogant.. but,

funny that lots of people are so arrogant with the little that they know.. so sure they are.. on things that they know not..

what can be worse.. the blind thinks he sees and knows the way, refusing a helping hand to guide, or a stick to aid?

I'm not so sure about your "Truth is experienced..", Ikhwan, because for me the Truth is there even though we never experienced it. That's why we often use the word WALLAHUa'alam (God knows better). The statement may be true for 'relatively true' observed or experienced phenomena because, again, for me, many truths are not necessarily universal. (It sounds like I'm borrowing the concepts in the theory of relativity).

But the rest, I think you have given a simple yet concise and meaningful elaboration on what actually I want to share in the second last paragraph of my first post entitled 'Plato's Theory of Knowledge and the Islamic Thought - An Opinion'.

Muchas gracias for the comment..

we say wallahu a'lam when we know that we do not have the truth..

truth is experienced.. if one does not experience it, does not mean that it does not exist..

There are levels of truths... the fact that truths appears to be not universal does not necessarily mean they are different or contradicting each other.. they may be just at different level, that they appear to be different and perhaps in some sense contradicting each other to one who does not understand them..

And thank you for commenting feeqtional.. I tried my best to explain what I know tou you. That's why I didn't include my own opinions, because I don't think I have enough knowledge to qualify my opinions to be shared openly. So, just take my first reply on your comment and please do not take the rest (of mine) as sources of knowledge, because they are merely discussions between me and my 'contemporary'.. heheh..

Yes, again, I agree with you when it comes to this point:
"if one does not experience it, does not mean that it does not exist.."
but to believe that the truth is experienced is, I think, not enough. I must say that I dont really understand what did u mean by 'experienced'.. Did u mean, the truth is perceived by senses, in our limited possessions of the world of the space and time continua?
Physical experiences must involve space and time. Thus it must occur in our universe which obey the laws of physics. Or did u mean the spiritual experiences as claimed by yogis, sufis etc? Or both? Or else?

I dont think truths must be coherent. For me, there is a grand truth exists independantly from the universe, and i call it the absolute truth, and there are truths exist in our universe, which i call them the subs of the absolute truth. These subs are like minor ripples and noises in a main wave. (again, I borrow mathematical concept here - Fourier series). So even if we 'experience' the seem-to-be-contradicting truths, they are actually equivalent and are all true when we 'see' them from the absolute truth perception. You may remember, once i told you about my inner-outer systems hypothesis.

To be continued...

...continuing my previous talk;
We can think the absolute truth as the complete solution of a differential equation of a grand wave, obtained using fourier integral. The subs of it are the subsolutions for that differential equation. We, are just a group of extremely minor ripples of that grand wave, searching for it and asking about its 'grand'ness. Because there are so many ripples, sometimes we encounter the hard moments when some waves seem completely contradicting the behaviour that we expected them to be. But when we move to a wider or smaller level (or system), we see they are actually coherent and obey the laws which are out of our previous system's jurisdiction. This is just a matter of perspective. I have generalized this thing in my inner-outer system hypithesis, but I don't know whether it has the potential to be a universal law in science, math, philosophy, art etc. haha..

But why I'm seemed to be speculating mathematics & science to be my references? Are they really 'ideally' true? Well, it's just a matter of choosing examples.

For the readers, the quote of mine up there encodes many things, & 1 of them is (indirectly) my inner-outer system hypothesis.

phewwww... gentlemen. enlighten me because im jahil in such matters, why is such questions important to the development of a civilisation? yes, philosophy builds the foundation of all other fields of knowledge but why do we have to delve to such great depth?

InsyaALLAH, if I have the knowledge.

ALLAHyarham Dr Kalim Siddiqui once said, to know your destination and how far you are from your destination is the beginning to all wisdom.

To be civilised is to know the purpose of birth and death, and to live meaningfully.

When you know how the roots are, you will know how strong the tree is.
When you know how big the tree is,
you will realize how small the branch that you're hanging with,
If you know how the seed grew,
you will wonder how smart the Creator is.

But, philosophy isn't perfect..
